|You all know that everything we see or don't see is made out of elements. Silicon SI is one of them.|
When we look into the Lithosphere
Silicon is on second place.
When we look at our Universe we find the following elements:
Element Mass fraction in parts per million
What do you think?|
Do humans use Si Silicon?
Yes, the glass in your windows is made out of the element silicon!
Semiconductors and silicone polymers have amounts of silicon, and would not work without it.
Maybe you have heard the word silica?
Silica SiO₂ is a common oxide form of silicon. Silicon is commercially prepared using silica in an electric arc furnace. Both silica SiO₂ and silicon Si have lattice structures. But silica differs from silicon due to the presence of silicon-oxygen covalent bonding.
Our bones have some amount of silica.
Some human implants are made out of silicon.
Most solar panels are made from silicon atoms.
You all know sand, also called silica.
The main ingredient of glass is silica.
Cement has parts of silica,
Porcelain has parts of silica.
Things made out of silicon, like baking forms, or seals are used because they withstand high temperatures.
Si has a boiling point of 2355 C
Si has a melting point of 1410 C
Just to name a few things, the element Si silicon is very useful.
The first scientist who prepared and characterized Silicon in pure form was Jöns Jakob Berzelius in 1823.

We give lectures at your event
When we founded BSB, we thought, everyone should be able to get free education online!
So, we choose a charitable volunteer organization - nobody gets a salary to keep the costs down. Money is only spend on office materials, telephone, paper, website fees, and insurance.
