ASCLEPIADACEAE - Pearl Milkvine, Matelea reticulata
Pearl Milkvine, Matelea reticulata|
is a robust, drought-tolerant twining vine.
It is found in sandy or rocky soils of the South Texas Plains and Edwards Plateau and can grow up to 12 ft.
Stems and leaves have hairs.
The leaves in pearl vine are opposite.
A shining pearl in the middle of the blossom, a special structure called a gynostegium. Its made up of fused parts of the stamens and pistil.
In fall its gets a fruit better named follicle.
This fruit is huge when compared to the blossom - and covered with prickles.
When it opens a huge number of wind driven seeds fly through the air.

Vines take a lot of carbon dioxide out of the air, they need no additional water, no chemicals, no pesticides!|
Because of much higher CO2 levels in Earth's air, vines are growing much stronger, taking over some native plant growth.
