Sapere Aude

Quintus Horatius Flaccus 8 December 65 - 27 November 8 BC, known in the English-speaking world as Horace, was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus also known as Octavian. Horace crafted elegant hexameter verses Sermones and Epistles and caustic iambic poetry Epodes. His career coincided with Rome's momentous change from Republic to Empire. An officer in the republican army defeated at the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC, he was befriended by Octavian's right-hand man in civil affairs, Maecenas, and became a spokesman for the new regimeDimidium facti qui coepit habet: sapere aude

This is a short sentence out of the seventh work by Horace, Quintus Horatius Flaccus 65 - 27 BC, published in the year 20 BC.
The phrase "sapere aude" comes out of a poem.
There are many possibilities to translate this small sentence - this is our translation:
"when you start to think, half of the work is done -
Have the courage to use your brain.."

Sapere Aude was often used during the Age of Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason.

When you look at the American Declaration of Independence, the United States Bill of Rights and the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, you will see the ideas and hopes of this new / old philosophy of Enlightenment.

In today's life, one might think these ideas and hopes are forgotten.
To give their children a good education, parents have to work hard and sacrifice time and a lot of money.
Money that not all parents have..
Education only for the wealthy?

We know from history, that the age of enlightenment changed Earth to the better.

We know from history, that the American dream of -all men are equal-
that the Declaration of Independence would not exist without the ideas of Enlightenment.
BSB Conservation education class room history: declaration of independence United States of America to protect the people a lot of brain was used - ideas of Kant and Horace and Montesquieu were used to find the right words for this declaration: sapere aude
Declaration of Independence

Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, was one of the leaders in the US Enlightenment era. He believed in science-based knowledge, spoke five languages, studied architecture, different religions, and philosophy. He had learned from conversations with other people and from books, and never stopped learning throughout his life.
"He who knows best knows how little he knows"
was one of his sayings.

Immanuel Kant
Asked in 1784 about the meaning he answered:
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity."

BSB Conservation education class room: When we switch our brain to power mode, we will see the big picture, will be more confident, having a better life. sapere aude at work
Have the courage to switch on your brain.. With Sapere Aude being charged to those who would follow this program of individual liberty and knowledge.

Would you like to guess: Who said that?
We strongly believe people should start the "New Age of Enlightenment".

We like to understand
We like to ask questions!

".. to see what everyone else has seen,
but think what no one else has thought.."
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi 1893 - 1986
With today's technical possibilities, people who adopt these life principles based on science, which require life-long learning, would have a better life, would have more success, would be leaders that can help mankind to deal with the coming changes and challenges.
End of August 2012, a great man, engineer and teacher died. He stated in 1969:
"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"
Neil Armstrong was right, at his time mankind was exploring, learning, trying to find out what's beyond ...
Shouldn't we listen to these great men?
Shouldn't we try to understand the Laws of Nature?
If we care about our future, shouldn't we constantly learning and updating our knowledge for a better future for ourselves and our children? Who is with me?

Would you work with us to bring this idea back to life?
We think this idea has to become powerful again because the future of our Earth, because the future of our children and grandchildren depends on better knowledge, better understanding!!

Another well educated man stated:
"Life is water dancing to the tune of macro molecules!"

Mexico environmental problems include not enough affordable nature conservation education to expand food production - Spain offers to little conservation education courses - Indonesia cuts down a lot of tree. Missing nature conservation education leads to deforestation, water contamination, erosion problems because of deforestation, endangering marine life and humans - China has a growing population, more energy, more food, nature conservation education is very low on the to do list - German schools offer conservation education, but a lot of people are too busy to learn new things
