Our definition:
A watershed is the area of land
on which precipitation
drains to a single point.
This definition of the word watershed
is only valid for North America.
All other countries have different expressions:
Water divide, drainage divide, Wasserscheide

A geographic area or drainage basin, where all the water, sediments, all liquids are collected and drained into one common body of water. When you think about this definition, every person on Earth lives in a watershed. The body of water could be a stream, lake, creek, estuary, aquifer, or one of Earth's oceans. There are big watersheds, or real small ones. Think about your city: All the gutters that run along the curb on your street are the drainage outlets for your streets watershed. The water in the gutters, which act as a small watershed of your neighborhood. Water flows into storm drain systems and empties into a nearby stream, which drains several neighborhoods in a larger watershed. That creek or river will flow into a larger stream. |

What you could clearly see: Water and with it all the things that Nature / humans throw into the water will drain within its watershed / water divide into the next river, next lake, ending up in an ocean or sea! Along these water lines and shores we can relax, play, watch the birds, discover aquatic plants, enjoy nature and have a good time with family and friends.. That's why it is important to protect water - without healthy water Nature cannot exist! Nature Conservation protects the water, the plants that need water, the animals + humans that only can live a few days without good drinking water!! |
