Look at the wheel in the middle
The Chakra / Dschakra, Wheel of the law of Dharma
The Wheel of Life
The Wheel of the law of Dharma
Part of the Maurya Dynasty was Emperor Ashoka, ruling from c. 268 to 232 BCE.|
He was born 304 BC in Pataliputra and died 232 BC.
For Emperor Asoka Dharma meant: spiritual maturity,
duty towards human community
reverence for human community.
The wheel signals that there is life in movement and death in stagnation!
The look of the wheel was changed several times during the centuries. Gandhi wanted to have the wheel in the flag from 1921.
The national assembly decided 1947 to have the wheel in the new flag of India.
A very special man, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was called a philosopher. But he became India's first Vice President and second President.
He tried to explain the colors of the flag of India and its significance:
"Bhagwa or the Saffron denotes renunciation or disinterestedness. Our leaders must be indifferent to material gains and dedicate themselves to their work. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to (the) soil, our relation to the plant life here, on which all other life depends. The "Ashoka Chakra" in the centre of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principle of those who work under this flag. Again, the wheel denotes motion. There is death in stagnation. There is life in movement. India should no more resist change, it must move and go forward. The wheel represents the dynamism of a peaceful change."
Today, Corruption is a big problem in many countries on Earth.
For the people from India it must be especially bad to face this problem, because these people dishonor the flag of India and what it stands for.
The National Emblem of India
is showing the Chakra
The wheel has 24 spokes which
represent the 24 hours of the day and
are symbol of the movement of time.
Additionally 12 of these spokes stand for
the causal links taught by the Buddha.
The other 12 spokes stand for the law of Dharma
Ashok Chakra is symbol of Dharmachakra and also known as Samay Chakra.
The 24 Spokes of Ashok Chakra want to remind people of the human qualities
that everybody is born with:
11. Self Sacrifice
20. Spiritual Knowledge
21. Moral Values
22. Spiritual Wisdom
23. The Fear of God
24. The Faith /Trust/belief
